Meet The Performance Space Artists Joining Our Street Party
By Sam Eacott
Our wonderful friends over at Performance Space have curated a stellar line of talent queers to entertain us at Roadwerk, A Heaps Gay Street Party in the back streets of Marrickville on Jan 18th.
Joining an already stacked lined up
Marcus Whale and Athena Thebus: Marcus x Athena create performances together, bonding over and gazing toward queer strategies in devotion and desire. You might have caught their performance ‘Lucifer’ at Day for Night as part of Liveworks Festival last year.
Felicia Foxx: Named by SBS and NITV one of 20 Indigenous people to look out for in 2019, This Aboriginal Queen reigning in from South Western Sydney Campbelltown born and bred her mob is the Kamilaroi tribe from Walgett and Dhunghutti tribe from Kempsey, started her drag career when she was just 16yrs old. Felicia Foxx would like to think she is a queen of colour inspiring all other queens of colour that you can make it anywhere if you stick to your fabulous glittery guns and make a difference in your communities.
Betty Grumble: Surreal Showgurl. Obscene Beauty Queen. Wild Womanhood. Sex Clown. With ceremonial precision and deranged wit, BETTY GRUMBLE enslaves her audience with a powerful call to arms as she raptures in the complexity of the woman body as a political and playful site. This will be her 3rd year joining our Street Festival.
The Working Bitches: A collective of friends and allies, deliberately energising their bodies as sites of worship and wildness. This high-energy performance will revel in a reach towards the physical limits of storytelling, sharing and sex. As the Bitches fly in the face of the ‘well behaved woman’ trope, they refuse to be shamed for their bodies; activating them to create an uncensored, unapologetic performance and installation. Join them and reclaim the space to celebrate women’s aliveness. Catch them before their performance at All About Woman festival in March.
Zaya Barroso is a captivating Sydney singer-songwriter and performer with a rich and diverse background. After launching her solo career in 2015, Zaya has been beguiling, entrancing and seducing audiences to think and feel ever since. Zaya’s songwriting is unapologetically honest, tapping into their personal experiences of resilience against trans haters, and those who exploit power. Zaya performances leave audiences in awe and leave them truly feeling.
